Meet Denise Minter

“Qigong saved my life. In profound ways, it changed how I faced my breast cancer and how I live every day.”  ~Denise Minter

Denise Minter founded Waking Up Energy to share her training and experiences with Qigong to help others. Aging, illness, and injury can be overwhelming, so she wants to share her dedicated Qigong practice to make the teachings more accessible, fun, and helpful. She brings years of training and experience to her online classroom.

  • Denise has taught at Qigong retreats, workshops and classes globally. A continual explorer and researcher of wellness tools, she curates these tools in her teachings to benefit her students. She helped launch and manage the first Qigong Teacher training certification program for The Chi Center.

  • Denise attributes Qigong for her own survival of body, mind and heart through breast cancer treatment. She never misses her daily practice to wake up balance for work, to be a mom, a world citizen and to maintain a healthy immune system.

  • When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, more than 20 years ago, I studied gentle, mindful teachings with renowned teachers and three Qigong Masters to support my healing journey.

This moving meditation, called Qigong (pronounced CHEE-GUNG phonetically in English) has helped millions of people maintain good health for thousands of years. Join me for a fun hour-long Qigong practice, live every weekday! You are invited to practice together in the company of friends.

In every Waking Up Qi Gong class, I share these powerful lessons with you. Together we wake up our resilience with easy, repetitive, gentle movements. Welcome a clearer mind, a stronger body, and a calmer heart using simple Qigong forms as a foundational self-care tool every day.

Repetitious flowing movements can benefit everyone at any age. It’s not magic. We use ancient teachings for our weekday practices that we do again and again daily with others in a global online Qi Gong class. Live, Monday through Friday.

“Denise Minter’s Waking Up Qigong class makes my day … every day! After each class, I feel relaxed and energized. And I feel a big difference in my stress and energy levels if I miss a class. Denise connects with each of her students and creates such a warm and welcoming class environment that I feel as if I’m practicing qigong each day with my Chi Family.”

- Karen R, New York State, US

Denise's class is a great way to bring me back into positive communication with my body.  I love the meditation to set the Qi field at the start of each class.  It feels so honoring to talk with my body in this way and is lovely to be led through it methodically.  Each part of the practice seems to build on and flow into the next.  By the end of the hour, I feel energized and humming.  Thank you, Denise!

Frequently Asked Questions

About Class & Qi Gong

  • Waking Up Energy QiGong is a one-hour online Qigong practice with teacher Denise Minter.

We begin every Waking Up Energy class with a Qigong meditation as we scan the body and draw in universal energy. Our intention: is to make friends with our bodies for relaxation and self-care. Using breath and our mind’s creative visualization, we gather infinite energy from the Universe and direct it inward. We flow into gentle, repeated movements for the rest of the hour. As with all the Qigong practices, you may practice the form seated, standing, or lying down. With whatever position you choose, please relax as deeply as possible and let the Qi flow.

  • • The Waking Up Courses are designed to make it easy to practice, with video demonstrations via online learning and every class is a guided practice session.

    • Practice is essential to realize benefits. The repetition of slow, gentle movements is loved by the body and the brain. Every day, we take the time to practice, to honor the body, to ground the body, to bring the mind into the body for loving awareness and deep relaxation.  With practice we discover our hidden potential to fit our world. For some of us that may be a busy, creative work, family or community life, for others it is a litany of medical appointments and treatments. Qi Gong changes the wisdom and resilience that we bring to each of these experiences.

    • Qi Gong is different from western medicine as we don’t take a pill to change our body or symptoms, we work on the inside of the whole body, mind and emotions. We all carry habits of our lifetime, and it is only through daily practice that we can wake up our mind, body and heart to function better. Through a dedicated practice, we can also bring more calm, vitality and resilience to support our doctors and medical care, and also our interactions in the workplace, home and community.

  • Absolutely not. Do not stop medical treatment, care or medications. Always talk with your doctor when planning to start a movement program.

  • This form of Qi Gong welcomes people of all abilities and interests, who are ready to add gentle self-care wisdom to their day. The movements are so gentle and can benefit many abilities, so it can be practiced standing, sitting, and lying down. The brain can be activated and learn by watching and focusing on the movement, even if the body is not responding as desired.

  • Yes. The human being has great, hidden potential, and this practice helps you tap into it. Waking Up Qi Gong supports other western and traditional wellness treatment care.

  • Qi Gong provides many tools for self-care, including how to relax the body and calm the mind to experience a better night’s sleep.

  • This form of Qi Gong welcomes people of all abilities and interests who are ready to add a gentle self-care routine to their day. Some students do Qi Gong in the morning and then do yoga, walk, run, swim, or meditate. Starting with an awake mind & body, helps you bring your best to all these activities that bring wellness into our life palette.

  • As will all movement programs, please consult your physician to be approved for Qi Gong movement.

This form of Qi Gong is designed for any age. These practices support and compliment your life. It’s about releasing energy blockages that occur from aging, illness, injury, and genetics. It's about using movement, visualizations, and sound to counteract the factors of aging, illness, injury, and genetics, and cultivate flexibility, strength, and resilience.  The movements are so gentle and can benefit many abilities they can be practiced standing, sitting, and lying down

  • Think of Qi Gong as a daily habit, just like brushing your teeth. As we learn Qi Gong and build new mind/body connections, it is beneficial to practice regularly for lasting benefit. In Qi Gong each practice is callled a “Gong”. Neuroscientists have found it takes 21 -30 consistent days of a routine or habit before the brain starts to set a new normal. The ancient Qi Gong masters said 100 days/ 100 Gongs for the mind and body to adjust AND begin to heal.

That is why we offer monthly subscriptions to support your dedicated Qi Gong routine for daily practice.

  • There are three steps to learning and creating a meaningful practice in Waking Up Qi Gong:

1 Sign up for a monthly subscription.

2 Practice frequently and everyday is best.  Visit the Library - this guided practice can foster deeper learning in mind, bod, heart. Consider deepening your practice by committing to a 100 day Gong, of 30 minutes of Qi Gong or the full one hour class.

3 Learn about the Qigong perspective: Join Qi Chat on Fridays after class, where you can speak with Denise, and the rest of the online Qi Gong community directly.

  • Qi Gong is pronounced phonetically chee-gung in English.

  • Qi = energy/life force + Gong = practice/cultivation = Qi Gong

In Qi Gong, the role of regular, daily practice is key to wellness. We practice aligning and flowing energy within the mind, body, and heart using movement, meditation, visualization and repeated flowing, gentle movements.

The key to training mind, body, heart to wake up your inner wisdom is through practice -- daily practice is best. Qigong originated in China, more than 4000 years ago, and has it's roots in Traditional Chinese medicine. Qigong is a Body-Mind Practice, a moving meditation.

  • Wisdom Healing Qi Gong (known as Zhineng Qi Gong), is a form created from many Qi Gong lineages by Dr. Pang Ming in China. It is designed to be gentle, yet powerful, so it could be done by people facing physical and emotional challenges. There are many forms of Qi Gong. At its core Qi Gong recognizes and transforms the flow of energy, or Qi, in the body, and the blockages caused by aging, illness, injury. It shares this energy/Qi focus with practices like Yoga, Acupuncture, Acupressure.

Denise learned the practices and forms of Wisdom Healing Qi Gong directly with Master Mingtong Gu, who trained with Dr. Pang. Master Gu trained and certified Denise as Level 2 Wisdom Healing Qi Gong Teacher. Read more at About Denise Minter.
